Stella Toonen

Stella Toonen is a researcher based at King’s College London and Tate Modern, as part of a collaborative PhD project. She looks at co-creation practices between museums and community groups, and studies how they might inform organizational change across museums. Her PhD work focuses on three case studies: Tate Modern in London (UK), the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester (UK), and Queens Museum in New York (US). She also works as a freelance community engagement consultant for arts organizations including 64 Million Artists and the Museum of London. She works with partners in the UK, US and Europe, and regularly writes and speaks about her work. Previously, Stella worked for the British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Imperial War Museum and for the Creative People and Places program in the UK. She is currently a trustee of digital arts company Culture24.
